RAF Airfield at Winkleigh
This former RAF airfield was built during World War II and was used by the British, American, Norwegian and Polish Airforce and was the home of the famous “Black Squadron” who dropped agents deep into occupied Europe. A copy of the 'History of Winkleigh Airfield' can be purchased at the store and just up the road you will find the memorial stone dedicated to the memory of all those who were stationed here during the war.
