A short history of D&S Supplies Discount Store
D & S Supplies first started trading in 1987 on the old RAF airfield at Winkleigh.
In August 1st 1994 it moved into new purpose built premises but within two years outgrew this unit and had to double in size to the to 9,000sq ft retail shop unit that it is today.
D & S is a member of the trading standards "Customer First" scheme and member of the "Federation of Small Businesses". The Business was incorporated in August 2004.
The new enlarged store boasts a vast selection of home hardware, household supplies and lots more with wide, disabled-friendly aisles along with toilet facilities for customers, level free parking and an on-site café with seating for 20 people - with an outside eating area in good weather.
D & S Supplies was started by the same proprietors as today, Stephen and Shirley Leahy who have earned a reputation for selling almost everything; the store is like an Aladdin's cave and each time you visit you find more and more items.
D & S is big enough to offer its customers the best competitive prices on a wide range of household goods, yet the husband and wife team and with friendly staff ensure that the customer always comes first. After ten years of radio advertising the customers come not just from Winkleigh but from far and wide across Devon and beyond: Plymouth, Holsworthy, Bude, Barnstaple, Bideford and Crediton to name but a few.
Except for grocery products, there are few lines you cannot purchase here and the lines are always changing. Visitors can be assured of a warm Winkleigh welcome from the proprietors and staff (along with a paw-shake from Sampson, our Golden Retriever). Staff are ready to help the less able and will carry goods to your car if you so wish. The Café boast a devon-wide reputation for its Big Breakfast and Full Monty both of which are famous amongst drivers, workman, fishermen and the locals of Winkleigh.
